Frequently Asked Questions about Bug Off products:

Here's some of our most asked questions or if you have another query contact us here

Does it work? . Bug Off has been shown to effectively remove head lice and their eggs, control head lice infestations and reduce their frequency. The Eliminator product uses natural essential oils to provide symptomatic relief of head lice infestations and assists in the management of head lice infestation. Bug Off Deterrent Spray reduces the frequency and defends from re-infestation.

Are the products organic? No - they are not certified organic but the products are free from sulfates, parabens and there are no harsh chemicals. We only use all natural 100% essential oils as the active ingredients.

Do you have to use the eliminator more than once? Yes - it is recommended that you repeat the elimination process after 7 days, just to make sure that all the eggs are treated with the product. You will find that after the first treatment there will be no live lice or eggs but it is better to make sure all bases are covered. The baby nit egg takes about 7 days to hatch which is why the repeat process is necessary.

What is the process for the Bug Off Eliminator Cream? Simple – apply the product to dry hair, leave in overnight, comb out dead lice and eggs in the morning with the special Bug Off Comb then wash the hair. You can do this process during the day however it’s best to keep the product in the hair for about 6 hours to make sure the product has enough time to do the job properly.

Do I have to wash all my child's bedding, clothing and hats? This is a personal choice but the head lice themselves cannot live off the human head for more than 24 hours so if the clothing and bedding has not been used during that time then you know it's safe.

My child tends to share around hats at kinder/school so can I spray the deterrent spray on hats and other clothing? Yes - it's a very good idea to give all hats a spray with the deterrent to make sure the head lice stay away. Another tip would be to spray on the deterrent once they are dressed, that way you will have collars and shoulders sprayed as well.

What are the essential oils that are used in the Bug Off formula? The Eliminator uses Australian Eucalyptus, Lavender and Geranium and the Deterrent Spray uses Rosemary, Lavender and Geranium.

I'm unsure as to what a dose of head lice is all about - can you sum it up for me? Sure, well they can infest clean or dirty hair, they cannot live away from the human head for more than 24 hours (and they cannot live on animals), one live lice can lay up to 300 eggs during its life cycle and they cannot transfer any diseases.

How are head lice spread? They can only spread from head-to-head contact with someone who has head lice and they are quite fast at running across to the next head. They cannot fly, jump or swim but can sometime "trapeze" from one hair strand to another.

How do I know if the eggs are dead or alive and how do I get rid of them? The egg (or nit) will only hatch when it is within 1cm of the scalp so any eggs found further out the hair strand will be dormant. Also, live eggs are white in colour and dead eggs are brown or black when they are dead. Bug Off have a quality head lice comb with rounded stainless steel pins specifically spaced and sized for maximum extraction of the head lice egg. Tried and tested on many kinds of hair with outstanding results.
